Unlocking the Secrets: All You Need to Know about Fee Information!
To bill ICBC for treatment, healthcare practitioners must adhere to the guidelines outlined in this document. Effective April 1, 2019, ICBC acts as the primary payer for acupuncture, chiropractic, counselling, kinesiology, massage therapy, physiotherapy, and psychology treatments.
The fee limits established by the BC Government, in consultation with healthcare provider associations representing their respective professions, reflect fair market rates for standard treatment sessions. These measures ensure a high standard of care while promoting equitable compensation for practitioners.
From April 1, 2019, ICBC customers will not be eligible for reimbursement of user fees if they choose to seek ICBC Physiotherapy from providers who charge fees exceeding the prescribed limits. In these cases, customers are responsible for paying the user fee portion, which they may submit to their private health insurer for possible coverage consideration.
First Consultation Visit
The fee limits for initial assessment visits are specified in the Insurance (Vehicle) Regulation (gov.bc.ca) and the Enhanced Accident Benefits Regulation (gov.bc.ca). The fee for the initial ICBC Physiotherapy assessment visit covers both the assessment and the standard treatment provided on that day. It is important to note that standard treatment should not be billed separately for the treatment given during the initial visit.
ICBC Treatments That Have Been Pre-authorized During The Early Access Period.
The Insurance (Vehicle) Regulation and the Enhanced Accident Benefit Regulation specify the number of pre-authorized treatments. ICBC customers are eligible for ICBC funding for a predetermined number of treatment sessions within the initial 12 weeks after their accident, without requiring ICBC approval. This number includes the initial assessment visit.

Customers are allowed to receive one ICBC Physiotherapy treatment per day from the same type of practitioner. However, there are no restrictions on combining different pre-authorized treatments. For instance, a customer can receive both a kinesiology treatment and a massage treatment on the same day. The only limitation is that two kinesiology treatments cannot be received on the same day.
ICBC Physiotherapists Treatment Fees
ICBC customers are eligible for twenty-five (25) pre-authorized physiotherapy sessions within the initial 12 weeks following their crash.

Initial assessment visit : $141/visit
- This fee will only be billed once per customer, unless ICBC approves otherwise.
- The fee covers both the assessment and any treatment that will be provided on the same day.
- The invoice or receipt for customer reimbursements should clearly state that it pertains to an initial visit.
- This fee applies for visits on or after April 1, 2023
Standard treatment : $89/visit
- The fee is applicable for treatments given on or after April 1, 2023.
- A typical ICBC Physiotherapy treatment session consists of at least twenty (20) minutes of one-on-one interaction between the customer and the physiotherapist. This duration does not include the time spent with a physiotherapist aide or rehabilitation assistant.
- The standard treatment fee covers all the modalities provided by the practitioner, as well as administrative duties like charting and session preparation. Rest assured, you’ll receive comprehensive care without any additional charges.
