Read our clinician-approved aftercare guidelines to support healing at the insertion site and optimize your recovery.
Once your Intravenous (IV) Therapy infusion is complete, your clinician will remove the catheter and apply a small bandage. Caring for yourself post-infusion is straightforward, but following a few basic guidelines ensures proper healing at the insertion site.
Most patients feel well immediately and return to their regular daily activities. Here is what to expect and how to care for yourself after your session.
Intravenous procedures require baseline physiological screening to protect your renal and cardiovascular systems. Every treatment begins with a mandatory clinical evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
After the catheter is removed, we apply a sterile gauze pad and a compression wrap to the insertion site. Keep this bandage in place for at least 30 minutes to allow the vein to close fully and prevent minor leaking or bruising.
Avoid scratching, rubbing, or scrubbing the site for the rest of the day. You can wash the arm gently with soap and water, but avoid hot baths or saunas immediately after your session.
You can resume light daily activities immediately. However, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, or repetitive bending of the treated arm for the first 4 to 6 hours after your session.
This helps prevent the tiny puncture in the vein from reopening, which can cause localized bruising or mild swelling under the skin.
Minor soreness, redness, or a small bruise at the insertion site are normal and typically resolve on their own. However, you should contact the clinic if you experience persistent pain, localized warmth, or spreading redness.
In the extremely rare event of difficulty breathing, chest tightness, or a high fever at home, seek immediate medical attention, as these symptoms can indicate a delayed reaction.
Clinical screening is mandatory before your first infusion. Book your initial consultation online for our Surrey (Chimney Hill) or Langley (Willoughby) clinics.
Please bring any recent blood panel results or prescriptions to your initial session.
