IV Education Resource
Read our clinical preparation guide to ensure a comfortable, safe, and efficient IV therapy session.
Proper preparation is the key to a comfortable and successful Intravenous (IV) Therapy session. Taking a few simple steps before your appointment can help make your veins more accessible and keep your blood sugar stable.
Following these clinical guidelines helps our team perform the procedure smoothly, minimizing discomfort during catheter insertion.
Intravenous procedures require baseline physiological screening to protect your renal and cardiovascular systems. Every treatment begins with a mandatory clinical evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
It may sound surprising to drink water before a hydration IV, but oral hydration is essential. When you are severely dehydrated, your veins can become flat and difficult to access, making catheter insertion more challenging.
We recommend drinking 2 to 3 glasses of water in the 2 hours leading up to your session. This helps plump your veins, making venipuncture quicker and more comfortable.
We strongly advise against receiving an IV drip on an empty stomach. Direct administration of high-dose vitamins (especially Vitamin C or B vitamins) can temporarily affect your blood sugar levels, which can cause mild lightheadedness if you haven't eaten.
Eat a balanced meal containing protein or complex carbohydrates within 2 hours of your appointment. This simple step keeps your blood sugar stable and helps you relax during the infusion.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing with sleeves that can easily be rolled up past the elbow, as the catheter is typically placed in the crease of the arm or the back of the hand.
If you are booking a specialized infusion, such as an iron infusion, remember to bring your valid physician's prescription and your recent blood work panels showing ferritin and hemoglobin levels.
Clinical screening is mandatory before your first infusion. Book your initial consultation online for our Surrey (Chimney Hill) or Langley (Willoughby) clinics.
Please bring any recent blood panel results or prescriptions to your initial session.
