IV Education Resource
Learn about the typical timelines, setup steps, and infusion durations for different types of IV treatments.
When planning your day, it is helpful to know exactly how much time to allocate for your Intravenous (IV) Therapy appointment. Timelines can vary based on the specific formulation you receive and whether it is your first visit.
A standard wellness infusion typically takes about an hour, while specialized medical or high-concentration treatments require a slower flow rate for safety and optimal absorption.
Intravenous procedures require baseline physiological screening to protect your renal and cardiovascular systems. Every treatment begins with a mandatory clinical evaluation by a qualified healthcare professional.
For most wellness and hydration drips (such as a Hydration IV or a Myers' Cocktail), the entire appointment takes about 60 to 75 minutes. This is broken down into three stages:
First, the clinical screening and vitals check (10-15 minutes). Second, the sterile catheter setup and flow initiation (5-10 minutes). Third, the active infusion (40-50 minutes), during which you can relax, read, or work.
Certain formulations require a slower, more controlled infusion rate to ensure safety and comfort. For example:
Medical iron infusions typically require 60 to 90 minutes of active drip time, followed by a mandatory 30-minute post-infusion observation period to monitor for any delayed reactions. High-dose NAD+ therapy is administered slowly over 2 to 4 hours to minimize temporary side effects like chest tightness or abdominal cramping.
It can be tempting to request a faster flow rate to save time, but clinical safety must guide the infusion speed. Running fluids or concentrated vitamins too quickly can cause a drop in blood pressure, localized vein irritation, or circulatory overload.
Our clinicians are trained to manage the flow rate carefully, ensuring that your body absorbs the fluid and nutrients comfortably and safely.
Clinical screening is mandatory before your first infusion. Book your initial consultation online for our Surrey (Chimney Hill) or Langley (Willoughby) clinics.
Please bring any recent blood panel results or prescriptions to your initial session.
