Physiotherapy plus active rehab, funded together
ICBC Enhanced Care pre authorizes twenty five physiotherapy sessions and twelve active rehab, or kinesiology, sessions within the first twelve weeks after your crash, with no doctor referral required to begin either one. Massage therapy, acupuncture and clinical counselling each carry their own twelve visit allowance in the same period. At Chimney Hill, all of that can happen inside one building, which matters most once you are past the acute stage and ready to rebuild strength rather than just manage pain.
Our front desk submits claims electronically to ICBC, so you typically are not asked to pay at the counter for treatment that falls within your pre approved allowance.
Why we move patients into the gym early
A large body of physiotherapy research on whiplash associated disorder points to the same conclusion, that staying passive for too long tends to slow recovery compared with a supervised return to movement. A systematic review and meta analysis of physiotherapy rehabilitation for whiplash associated disorder found some evidence supporting active, exercise based management over rest based approaches for improving pain and range of movement in the shorter term.
In practice, that means once your physiotherapist has settled the most acute symptoms with hands on treatment, you will often be introduced to our kinesiology team next door, who build a progressive exercise program around your specific injury rather than a generic routine.
Conditions our Chimney Hill team sees regularly
Whiplash and reduced neck mobility
Guarded turning, stiffness on waking and tension headaches following a rear end or side impact collision.
Low back pain and muscle guarding
Protective tightening through the lower back and hips after bracing for impact behind the wheel.
Persistent neck pain and headaches
Ongoing pain and tension headaches that continue weeks after the crash if the neck is not reconditioned.
Motor vehicle accident injuries generally
A broad range of soft tissue and joint strain patterns that respond well to structured, staged rehabilitation.
How your care progresses at Chimney Hill
Assessment and claim setup
We confirm your ICBC claim number and accident date, then your physiotherapist completes a full movement and pain assessment.
Early hands on treatment
Manual therapy, gentle mobility work and education on managing symptoms at home begin from the first appointment.
Transition into active rehab
As acute pain settles, a kinesiologist builds a progressive strength and endurance program using the on site gym.
Coordinated add on care
Massage therapy or clinical counselling can be layered in if muscle tension or accident related anxiety is affecting your recovery.
Progress reporting
Your care team documents progress for ICBC and adjusts your plan or requests further sessions if your recovery needs more time.
Direct billing at Chimney Hill
Physiotherapy, active rehab and massage therapy sessions covered by your Enhanced Care allowance are billed straight to ICBC. Our reception team will always flag it if a service or add on falls outside what is automatically pre approved so there are no surprise invoices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Alongside physiotherapy, our Chimney Hill clinic runs an in house active rehab gym staffed by kinesiologists, which is one of the twelve visit categories Enhanced Care pre approves separately from physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy focuses on hands on assessment, manual therapy and identifying what is driving your pain. Active rehab is exercise led, working on strength, endurance and confidence once you are ready to load the injured area more. Many patients use both.
No separate referral is required. Your physiotherapist can recommend active rehab as part of your plan, and our kinesiology team will design a program suited to your stage of recovery.
Sooner tends to be better. Early movement based care within the first couple of weeks is associated with fewer lingering symptoms for many soft tissue injuries, so we recommend booking as soon as your claim is open rather than waiting for pain to fully settle.
No. There is a free plaza parking lot directly outside our Chimney Hill entrance, which matters if bending, twisting or long walks are uncomfortable in the early weeks.
Yes. Registered massage therapy has its own twelve session Enhanced Care allowance, and many Chimney Hill patients schedule it alongside physiotherapy and active rehab to manage muscle tension while their exercise tolerance builds.
If you still need care past that point, your physiotherapist can submit a progress report to ICBC requesting additional sessions based on your documented findings and recovery trajectory.
Yes. While we see a lot of patients from Fleetwood, Cloverdale and Newton, anyone with an open ICBC claim is welcome to book at Chimney Hill regardless of where they live.
