What Enhanced Care actually pays for in your first twelve weeks
Since British Columbia moved to the Enhanced Care model in May 2021, ICBC automatically pre authorizes a set number of treatment sessions for anyone injured in a crash, regardless of who was at fault. For physiotherapy, that allowance is twenty five visits, including your first assessment, available within twelve weeks of the accident date. Chiropractic care is also funded for twenty five visits, while registered massage therapy, kinesiology or active rehab, acupuncture and clinical counselling are each pre approved for twelve visits over the same window.
None of this requires a doctor to sign off first. You open a claim with ICBC, you receive a claim number, and you can walk into our Scott Road clinic and start your assessment the same week. Our front desk handles the direct billing on the ICBC side so the invoice never lands on your kitchen table.
Why the injuries we see here follow a pattern
Most of the collisions our Scott Road patients describe are low to moderate speed, the kind that happen while merging near the bridge approach, waiting at the 120 Street lights, or braking suddenly in stop and go traffic along Scott Road itself. That kind of impact does not always show damage on an X ray, but it can strain the small muscles and ligaments that stabilize the neck and upper back, which is exactly why whiplash associated disorder can feel worse two or three days after the crash than it did at the scene.
A published systematic review of conservative treatment for acute whiplash found that active approaches, meaning guided movement and exercise rather than rest and a soft collar, produced better pain outcomes at six months and beyond compared with passive treatment alone. That research lines up with how our physiotherapists approach your first few sessions here, focused on restoring safe movement early rather than waiting for pain to disappear on its own.
What we treat most often after a Scott Road area collision
Whiplash and neck strain
Stiffness, reduced turning range and tension headaches that develop in the days following impact.
Lower back and mid back pain
Muscle guarding and joint irritation from bracing during the collision or an awkward seated position on impact.
Neck pain and cervicogenic headaches
Pain radiating from the neck into the head, often worse with screen use or driving in the weeks after a crash.
Shoulder and seatbelt strain
Bruising and soft tissue strain across the chest and shoulder where the seatbelt locked during sudden braking.
Your first visit on Scott Road, step by step
Claim details confirmed
Our front desk records your ICBC claim number and accident date so billing can be submitted electronically from day one.
A full movement and history assessment
Your physiotherapist reviews how the collision happened, then checks range of motion, strength and any areas of guarding.
A plain language explanation
You leave your first visit understanding what was found, what a typical recovery timeline looks like, and what your next few sessions involve.
Gentle treatment begins immediately
Most patients receive some hands on treatment or movement guidance in the very first appointment, not only an assessment.
A plan for the weeks ahead
If massage therapy, chiropractic care or counselling would help, we can coordinate those referrals within the same clinic.
Direct billing at the Scott Road front desk
When your Enhanced Care allowance is active and a session falls within it, we submit the claim to ICBC electronically and you are not asked to pay at the counter. If you also carry extended health coverage, our team can coordinate the two so nothing gets billed twice and nothing gets missed.

ICBC pre authorizes twenty five physiotherapy sessions, including your initial visit, within the first twelve weeks after the accident date. If your recovery needs more time, your physiotherapist can request additional sessions based on your clinical progress.
It does not matter where the collision occurred. As long as your ICBC claim is open, you can choose to receive treatment at our Scott Road clinic regardless of where the crash took place in British Columbia.
Yes. You are free to change providers at any point during your claim. Bring any assessment notes or exercise sheets you already have and we will pick up your care plan from where you left off.
For pre approved treatment within your claim window, we bill ICBC directly, so most patients pay nothing at the front desk. If a specific service falls outside what is automatically pre approved, our team will tell you before any charge is applied.
Yes. Enhanced Care applies to anyone injured in a motor vehicle collision in British Columbia, including passengers, cyclists and pedestrians, not only the driver of the vehicle.
Bring your ICBC claim number, a piece of photo identification, and any imaging or referral paperwork you already have. Comfortable clothing that allows movement testing helps your physiotherapist assess you properly.
Yes. Our Scott Road clinic also provides registered massage therapy, chiropractic care and clinical counselling, each with its own pre approved allowance under Enhanced Care, so your recovery plan can involve more than one discipline under one roof.
